Welcome to the Lower Eastern Shore
Visit the Land of Pleasant Living - Travel to the Lower Shore and experience relaxation, recreation and some of the best scenic views in the Mid-Atlantic.

The Lower Shore includes Maryland and Virginia

The EASTERN SHORE is that part of the Delmarva Peninsula (DELaware, MARyland and ViriginA) that is flanked by the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay.

The "Lower Shore" refers to the southern half of the Eastern Shore comprising six counties - 2 in Virginia and 4 in Maryland.

One could spend months on the Lower Shore and still not be able to take in the historic sites, the rural heritage, and the recreational activities of boating, fishing going to the beaches - and of course - eating Eastern Shore Crabs and seafood.

The Lower Shore includes

Dorchester County MD
Wicomico County MD
Worcester County MD
Somerset County MD
Accomack County VA
Northampton County VA

Life on the Lower Shore is slow paced (commonly referred to as "laid back.") Most of the residents live in small towns or rural areas.

The largest towns on the Lower Shore are Cambridge, Salisbury, Ocean City and Pocomoke City.  However the Lower Shore of Maryland abounds with small, historic hamlets that reflect the culture and history of the area.

A Ghost Town is a town with two characteristics:
  1. The population has decreased markedly.

  2. The initial reason for that population (i.e. a mine or railroad) no longer keeps people in the community.
